Services and Programs
In 2007, Resources, Inc. served 2,710 adult victims of domestic violence, along with their dependent children, with advocacy, counseling and legal Services. We act as the Victim Assistance Unit for the Albuquerque Police Department and the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Department offering services 24 hours a day to victims of domestic violence, elder abuse and sexual assult. Our services also include legal services and counseling are safe, confidential, culturally-sensitive and free.
Advocacy Services
A team of advocates are available to assist victims. As first responders in cooperation with the police, advocates ensure that victims are getting proper advice, referral to services and are a voice for the victim. We provide one-on-one client advocacy, in working in partnership with the survivor to identify and address a wide variety of needs. Advocacy services are depend on each survivor's stated needs and goals. Services may include, but are not limited to:
- Individual advocacy-based counseling
- Crisis intervention and stabilization in emergency situations;
- Assisting survivors in identifying needs and barriers and developing an action plan
- Design personalized safety plans
- Survivors' education on the dynamics of abusive relationships
- Providing systems-based advocacy for survivors with cultural and language barriers
- Ensure access to services within other agencies
- Interpreting and translating for Spanish-speaking domestic violence survivors
Legal Services
Civil legal advocacy services help break down the many barriers encountered by survivors who may be trying to obtain a civil protection order or obtain or other services. Legal advocacy helps survivors to navigate the unfamiliar, complex, often bewildering and even frightening judicial system, in those cases where law enforcement has become involved due to a reported domestic violence incident.
Legal advocacy services may include, but are not limited to: Providing clients with an explanation and overview of the U.S. legal system, Interpreting documents; Court accompaniment for survivors, to include explanation and preparation for hearings, explanation of processes, informal interpretation and emotional/moral support.
Domestic Violence Legal Resources (DVLR)
Thanks to funding from the NM Crime Victims Reparation Commission, Resources, Inc. clients can access legal information and/or advice through the Domestic Violence Legal Help Line, walk-in client assistance every Monday from 9-5, statewide outreach assistance, and assistance through the Victims Assitance Unit located at the Family Advocacy Center. Clients are able to receive legal services such as assistance with custody, family matters, and legal representation for more complicated cases through the DVLR program.
Crisis Intervention & Counseling Services for Survivors of Abuse
Social workers and counselors provide confidential short-term crisis intervention and counseling to victims and survivors of abuse and their children on a number of issues. The staff also link clients to ongoing long term services. Support groups are also available. Counselors also conduct weekly life skills training, parenting classes, coping skills, adolescent groups, child witness groups, mental health assessments, and AODA screenings.
Services for Children & Teens
Crisis intervention is available to children through our in home intervention program. A team of licensed social workers and counselors provide counseling and therapy to children and teens who have witnessed violence in the home and/or are victims of emotional and physical abuse themselves. Teen and youth groups are conducted weekly.
